    PLEASE EXCUSE CROSS-LISTINGS

    Dear IABS and SIM friends,

I am writing to let everyone know that my wife Sandy and I are safe.
We had no flood damage to our property and did not need to evacuate
our location. We did not lose power or internet access. Our
neighborhood roads are beginning to clear. Rain here is beginning to
trail off toward sunshine at the end of the week.

Universities including Rice and school districts are generally closed
through Labor Day upcoming as no one can move very far yet except
emergency services with specialized vehicles and boats. Civilians
voluntarily arrived with boats from outside the rain zone to help with
rescue work. Businesses and churches have helped to supplement
    official evacuation centers where possible.

A huge volume of rain fell over several days, and transportation in
the Houston area is still largely paralyzed by flooded highways and
roads. Unfortunately, thousands of people have had to evacuate from
various neighborhoods, and flooding problems are far from over at some
locations. Heavy rain extended from Austin and San Antonio through
College Station down to the coast from Corpus Christi to Galveston,
    centered on Houston.

I thank collectively those of you who emailed to check on my status.

    Duane Windsor

Thanks, Duane, for letting us know.
I've been thinking of all of our Texas colleagues.
