Sorry if you get more than one of these...

EGOS Sub-theme on Organizing Business Collective Action (sub-theme 24)

We invite you all to consider submitting your paper to the sub-theme on Business Collective Action (sub-theme 24) for the 2017 EGOS Colloquium in Copenhagen, Denmark, July 6-8 2017.

    Convenors:

Charlene Zietsma, York University, Canada, czietsma@schulich.yorku.ca

Lærke Højgaard Christiansen, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, ljhc.ioa@cbs.dk

Sean Buchanan, University of Manitoba, Canada, Sean.Buchanan2@umanitoba.ca

    Description:

Business collective action (BCA) is a prevalent, yet poorly understood phenomenon. Though organizational research acknowledges trade associations, political action committees, producer cooperatives, research foundations and other forms of business collectives, they are rarely the focus of inquiry. Nevertheless, in-depth analysis of BCA offers opportunities to enhance theory and gain insights into an increasingly important form of organizing relevant for this year's colloquium theme. The examination of BCA may shed light on how organizations collaborate in pursuit of collective interventions for the good by addressing issues such as environmental sustainability or human rights, or in pursuit of their own interests, often at the cost of social welfare. Meanwhile, BCA is complicated by the inherent tensions between competitive and communal interests, making BCA an excellent context to examine sites of struggle between different actors.

The aim of this sub-theme is to generate a debate within organization studies on the nature of BCA, its role and impact, as well as how scholars might study the phenomenon. Looking forward to receiving your submissions!
