Are you interested in exploring approaches to management inquiry that are likely to fundamentally transform conventional paradigms and lead to novel research directions? Then read on: this PDW is for you.

Here we explore the potential of philosophical methods to advance management research for the benefit of society and humanity. We will seek to stimulate your imagination by inviting you to brainstorm various ways in which specific philosophical methods (e.g. thought experiments, critical theory, discourse ethics, constructivism, hermeneutic circles) can be applied to specific management and organization research issues, and by challenging you to evaluate the analytical potential of such applications. The key questions we will raise and discuss are:

(1)   How can philosophical methods enhance the capacities of management as a discipline to improve the interdependent health and well-being of individuals, organizations, communities, human society and the planet? And

(2)   What are some of the more productive modalities of engaging philosophical reflection in the generation of solutions to systemic social problems, e.g., economic inequality, marginalization or exclusion of vulnerable groups, proliferation of socially and environmentally unsustainable business models?
