Call for Applications for Cross-Sector Social Interactions (CSSI) Doctoral Workshop, Toronto, April 17, as part of CSSI Conference: Cross-Sector Partnerships for Systemic Change April 18-19. See http://www.cssi2016.com/

Generous funding makes the workshop free for all accepted participants who also receive preferential (student) rate for conference.  Also, generous bursaries available for up to 5 PhD students from Asia, Latin America, and Africa to support travel and accommodation. To apply, email OBranzei@Ivey.uwo.ca by December 15.

Building on the success of the doctoral workshop at the 4th International Cross Sector Social Interactions (CSSI) Symposium in Boston, 2014, the Scientific Committee for the 5th International CSSI Symposium invites applications for a doctoral workshop to be held April 17, 2016, at the Schulich School of Business Nadal Centre, downtown Toronto.  The workshop will immediately precede the symposium, which will take place April 18-19. Participants in the workshop should also plan to register for and attend the symposium.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for doctoral students at various stages of their programs to engage with other students interested in CSSI and learn from faculty mentors who have been researching, teaching, and publishing on CSSI topics. Doctoral students will have the opportunity to network with colleagues, ask candid questions of faculty, and discuss their research projects in an open environment.  In addition to students with a primary interest in CSSI topics, we also encourage applications from doctoral students whose research may intersect with CSSI topics or who wish to explore research opportunities in this area.

The format for the workshop will include short presentations of research by doctoral students, feedback from faculty mentors, discussion of professional career management and publishing opportunities, and informal networking. An informal dinner will be held with faculty and students the evening of April 17.

The faculty members that will be there to exchange ideas will include:

    • Oana Branzei, University of Western Ontario
    • Amelia Clarke, University of Waterloo
    • Andrew Crane, York University
    • Jonathan Doh, Villanova University
    • Esben Rahbek Gjerdrum Pedersen, Copenhagen Business School
    • Carlos Rufin, Suffolk University
    • May Seitanidi, University of Kent
    • Rob van Tulder, Erasmus University Rotterdam
    • Sandra Waddock, Boston College

To apply, please submit the following documents to the co-chair of the Doctoral Workshop, Oana Branzei at OBranzei@Ivey.uwo.ca

    1. A one-page memo stating your motivation and interest for participating in the CSSI Doctoral Consortium
    2. A two-page research abstract containing information about the main objectives, theoretical perspective, methodological approach and expected findings of your doctoral dissertation or thesis. This should relate to your doctoral research project as a whole, rather than be a single article, and should be different to any papers that you submit to the main conference.
    3. A current CV

Applications are due by December 15 (deadline extended), 2015. However, we will consider applications on a rolling basis, so earlier applications are highly encouraged as the number of participants is limited.
