(Updated to include the date; apologies for leaving it off the original!)
Dear SIM Division members,
I hope that you are getting ready to attend Academy of Management annual meeting in Anaheim, starting on August 5 with an excellent PDW program and continuing with the scholarly program of paper sessions and symposia from Monday, August 8 to Tuesday, August 9. You've been receiving a number of notices about exciting sessions to attend. Over the next few days, I will be highlighting some of the SIM-wide events that you should be sure to put on your calendar.
The first session I wanted to highlight is the Social Issues in Management/Society for Business Ethics Joint Keynote Address and Reception, which will be held Saturday, August 6. (This event is not in the AOM online or digital programs, as AOM is not listing offsite events with non-AOM organizations.) This event is held at the Society for Business Ethics hotel, which is the Wyndham Anaheim Garden Grove (12021 Harbor Boulevard, Garden Grove; about a mile from the AOM hotels). The keynote address is from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in Catalina B, and the reception is from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in Catalina A.
This year's keynote address will be given by Saru Jayaraman. Here's her bio:
Saru Jayaraman is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC United) and Director of the Food Labor Research Center at University of California, Berkeley. After 9/11, together with displaced World Trade Center workers, she co-founded ROC, which now has more than 18,000 worker members, 200 employer partners, and several thousand consumer members in a dozen states nationwide. Saru is a graduate of Yale Law School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She was profiled in the New York Times "Public Lives" section in 2005, named one of Crain's "40 Under 40" in 2008, was 1010 Wins' "Newsmaker of the Year" and New York Magazine's "Influentials" of New York City. She was listed in CNN's "Top10 Visionary Women" and recognized as a Champion of Change by the White House in 2014, and a James Beard Foundation Leadership Award in 2015. Saru authored Behind the Kitchen Door (Cornell University Press, 2013), a national bestseller, and her most recent book is Forked: A New Standard for American Dining (Oxford University Press, 2016).
I hope to see you there! More to follow. . .
