Those of you attending the Academy of Management this year are no doubt preparing for your arrival in the Land of the Mouse. I'd like to bring your attention to some things about the Professional Development Workshop (PDW) program, which starts on Friday and continues through Sunday.

There is an exciting array of PDWs on offer this year. Mike Barnett, our Program Chair, has put together SIM Tracks, which has all of the SIM-sponsored PDWs. You can find it here: http://sim.aomonline.org/2013%20SIM%20Tracks.pdf. Most of the PDWs are located in the SIM hotel, which is the Coronado Springs Resort. There are some PDWs that are in other hotels, as noted in your program and SIM Tracks. As Mike noted previously, I have taken to saying that Disney World is not a small world, after all. (Apologies if that song gets stuck in your head as an earworm.) AOM has provided information about shuttle service during the conference itself:http://aom.org/uploadedFiles/Meetings/annualmeeting/Registration/BUS%20SCHEDULE%202013.pdf.

Throughout Friday and Saturday, there will be PDWs that address important topics, including the bottom of the pyramid, CSR in Iberoamerica, development-oriented CSR, gun violence, mainstreaming SIM research, multi-stakeholder dialogue, supply-chain responsibility, sustainability, and many others. SIM also has a PDW on Sunday's All-Academy program entitled  "Capitalism in Crisis and Other Conundrums: Tackling the Big Questions" from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Finally, I encourage you to come to the SIM/SBE joint keynote speaker and reception on Saturday. Tammy Brister, Director of Environmental Initiatives for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, will discuss the successes and challenges that Disney has had implementing in its corporate environmental and sustainability goals.  The title of her talk is "Conserving the Magic," and it begins at 5:30 pm in Salon 4 at the Grand Floridian Hotel, with the reception following. The shuttle services referred to previously won't work to get from the Coronado Springs Resort to the Grand Floridian Hotel.  You can take intra-park shuttle services (a shuttle to the Magic Kingdom Park, and then the monorail to the Grand Floridian Hotel, for example), or take a taxi. If you are staying at a different hotel, ask the front desk personnel for the best routing. For people taking Disney transportation from the Coronado Springs Resort to the Grand Floridian or vice versa, allow an hour.

I hope you are able to take advantage of some of the great PDWs this year. Please let me know if you have any questions. Safe travels!
