This PDW explores the idea of Critical Performativity. The PDW will provide attendees an understanding of what critical performativity is, how it might be used to study organizations and how it can be used in attempts to change organizations. We will bring together a panel of leading contributors to debate about critical performativity, as well as scholar-activists who have put critical performativity to work. The first part of the workshop will introduce the broad idea of critical performativity, and then look at some variations. The second part will ask how the idea of critical performativity can be put to work in a research project. In the final part of the workshop, we will explore how the idea of critical performativity can be used in forms of activist engagement with organizations. By the end of the workshop, participants will have an understanding of what critical performativity is, how they might use it in their own research, and how it might be put to work in activist engagement with organisations.
