This PDW aims at sensitizing management and organization scholars to how history matters in the creation and development of organizations or networks, industries and fields. Using the examples of organizational imprinting and path dependence as well as process theory about routine dynamics the workshop will highlight issues of timing, pace and sequencing as well as the dynamics of events and episodes for theory building and elaboration. A further central issue will be historically informed research designs and methods, including data gathering and data analysis in terms of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods.
The PDW consists of the following three elements:
1. Introduction and presentations (90')
- Historical approaches (Kipping & Üsdiken)
- Organizational imprinting (Marquis)
- Organizational path dependence (Schreyögg & Sydow)
- Routine dynamics (Rerup)
2. Round table discussions moderated by organizers (50')
3. Pulling together themes and pointing to future directions (10')
You do not have to pre-register for this PDW.
