Those conducting research in the area of social change or social entrepreneurship may be interested in a new study produced by the Network for Business Sustainability (NBS; http://nbs.net/). A research team led by Dr. Ute Stephan at the University of Sheffield systematically reviewed the existing literature on "How can companies help change people's behaviour in order to benefit society?" The team examined how businesses can enable behaviour change related to the environment, health, civic engagement and social inclusion. Drawing on 123 studies, the team identified:
- three components that are necessary for people to change their behaviour (motivation, capability and opportunity)
- specific actions, supporting those components, that companies can use to drive positive behaviour change
- ways of sequencing and managing those actions that increase the effectiveness of social change efforts
The systematic review is available for download at http://nbs.net/knowledge/stakeholder/social-change/systematic-review/. An executive report for managers is available at http://nbs.net/knowledge/stakeholder/social-change/executive-report/.
Dr. Stephan will also present the research in a free Webinar, aimed at managers and researchers, on March 5 at 1 pm EST. Webinar registration: http://nbs.net/march-5-webinar-best-practices-for-companies-to-drive-social-change/
The research team also included Dr. Malcolm Patterson and Ciara Kelly. Dr. Johanna Mair helped to guide this research, along with managers from the NBS Leadership Council.
