    Apologies for cross-posting

Those conducting research in the area of strategy may be interested in a new study produced by the Network for Business Sustainability (NBS; http://nbs.net/). University of Connecticut researchers David Souder, Greg Reilly and Rebecca Ranucci systematically reviewed the existing literature on incorporating long-term impacts into today's decisions.

Corporate short-termism is one of the most significant issues confronting both business and society today. Sustainability requires businesses to manage resources for the long term. Yet, businesses face continual short-term pressures from investors, customers, and even their own managers.

Based on a review of over 150 academic journal articles, as well as industry reports and popular press, the report addresses contributors to, and consequences of, short-term decision-making; and identifies decision-making processes that incorporate both the short term and long term.

The systematic review is available at http://nbs.net/knowledge/strategy/long-term-thinking/systematic-review/.

An executive report for managers - appropriate for use by students - is available at http://nbs.net/knowledge/strategy/long-term-thinking/executive-report/. The executive report also emphasizes the sustainability implications of the research.

Dr. Philip Bromiley helped to guide this research, along with managers from the NBS Leadership Council.
