New NBS resources: Effective sustainability reporting

  • 1.  New NBS resources: Effective sustainability reporting

In collaboration with practitioners, researchers working with the Network for Business Sustainability have identified pathways to effective sustainability reporting.

The research team, led by Dr. Jodi York (University of Melbourne), argues for a shift in focus from report to reporting. The production of the sustainability report should not be an end in itself. Rather, the formal sustainability report should be an important part of a larger reporting platform for understanding and communicating organizational performance.

We encourage you to draw on the research described in the main report and to share practitioner-oriented materials with managers and students. These materials include the:

    ·         Sustainability Reporting Playbook

    ·         Reporting Roundtable Discussion (with audio clips)

    ·         Assess Your Reporting Quiz

In addition to Dr. York, the research team included Brad Potter and Chris Dembek of University of Melbourne and Wesley Gee of The Works Design Communications. The researchers worked closely with practitioners: members of NBS's Leadership Council of Canadian organizations. The research is based on a review of existing studies and examination of seven Canadian companies.

Please share your thoughts. Is this work useful? What might you add? We appreciate feedback (info@nbs.net).
