Call for Contributions: Business Ethics Collections

    Dear Scholars,

Business Expert Press's focus is on publishing concise, academically sound, applied books aimed at providing supplemental material for advanced undergraduate and MBA business education as well as for the business executive education marketplace, an underserved market segment. These short books (150 pages or less) are perfect for executive education, supplementary materials in undergraduate and MBA programs, and for the professional market. BEP distributes its books through University Readers, Xanedu and in selected cases Harvard Business Publishing – the leading providers of cases and course packs.

As the collection editor for the Business Ethics track, we will review your proposal and offer you feedback on your manuscript prior to making the approval decision. Professional copy editors will also help you with the final manuscript. Business Expert Press employs a quick, 120-day production timeline from start-to-printed book in-stock. There are two related collections connected to business ethics within this track.  One is a comprehensive set of teaching materials designed primarily for the needs of executive education and Master of Business or Master of Science in Management programs across various management functions and disciplines. While ethics, decision-making, corporate governance, and ethical leadership are prime foci of the collection, we welcome core management pedagogy in such fields as, accounting, finance, organizational behavior, strategy, marketing, leadership, and operations as prime targets for the content and spirit of the business ethics-related publications.  The second collection is directed toward management practitioners for an applied focus on management practice and implementation in organizations. Thus, we are also seeking submissions related to the design and application of tools and processes for promoting the understanding and importance of managerial action in assuring ethical behavior in organizations.

To meet the needs of such a diverse audience, we have an open call for proposals and invite your submissions for book proposals for either track in the following subject areas: behavioral business ethics, ethical decision-making, moral development, ethical leadership, corporate governance, ethics training, applied business ethics, corporate social responsibility, workplace issues, normative stakeholder management, human rights, and social entrepreneurship.  Of course, we will consider additional subjects and focus areas, that are relevant for the overall goals of the collection.

There are several reasons why you might want to consider publishing a book with BEP. You could use such a book in your teaching, to enhance your consulting practice, to promote ethical behavior in the workplace, and to build your reputation in the field.  Business Expert Press will sell your book both in print and in digital collections to the business school libraries of the world. The library market is large – 7000 libraries globally – and the prices paid for these one-time sales are relatively high when compared to one-time, direct-to-consumer sales. Thus, they yield good royalty potential.

Converting your expertise into a concise and focused book for the business education and business practitioner markets will be a valuable contribution.  If you have an idea for a book that would fit this business model, please contact us via email. We look forward to discussing this opportunity with you.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. David Wasieleski, Collection Editor

    SOCIAL ISSUES IN MANAGEMENT (SIM)
Program Chair: Andy WicksThe Darden School – University of VirginiaWicksaaom@darden.virginia.edu

The SIM Division is a research community actively examining business ethics, stakeholder management, environmental management, social entrepreneurship, base-of-the-pyramid activities, corporate social responsibility, corporate philanthropy, workplace diversity, corporate governance, business-government relations, corporate political strategy, and corruption, among other topics. SIM Division members engage in theory building and theory testing to understand the antecedents, impacts, and institutional settings that shape managerial and organizational decision-making around such topics. SIM Division members seek to understand responsible behavior and contributions to the greater good at the individual, organizational, and trans-organizational levels. Further, we study international impacts with regard to whether, how, and under what conditions managerial, organizational, and trans-organizational responses to social concerns vary based on formal and informal institutional contexts, including laws, customs, traditions, and beliefs.

SIM seeks proposals for the main program sessions (Sunday, August 11, Monday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 13) at the 2019 Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting in Boston, MA. The common logic of scholarship in the SIM Division is our shared interest in understanding responsible managerial behavior at the individual, organizational, and trans-organizational levels.

Paper and symposium proposals may choose to incorporate this year's conference theme: Understanding the Inclusive Organization. This theme holds great promise to inform and highlight numerous critical themes within SIM – particularly around such topics as diversity, inclusion, ethics, sustainability, creating value for stakeholders, corporate responsibility (and many others). Submitters are encouraged to reflect on the conceptual and practical links their work offers to the program theme: Understanding the Inclusive Organization https://aom.org/annualmeeting/theme/?terms=2019%20meeting%20theme

While we encourage proposals related to the conference theme, we also welcome non-thematic proposals about other topics within the SIM including, but not limited to, ethical decision-making, corporate social responsibility, corporate philanthropy, natural business ethics, stakeholder engagement and relations, environmental management, base-of-the-pyramid, social entrepreneurship, moral development, public policy, and corporate political strategy. PDW workshops may have a variety of structural forms, including roundtable discussions, interactive panels, site visits, service-learning activities, creative/artistic sessions, entrepreneurial incubators, and other activities that help SIM members develop professionally.

The SIM Division also sponsors numerous awards, including best paper, best student paper, best ethics paper, best sustainability paper, best dissertation, and best book. The winners of these awards are announced at the SIM business meeting held on Monday afternoon during the conference.

Submission Details: The submission system opens up on November 27th, 2018 and the deadline for papers and symposia is January 15, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Please try to submit earlier if possible.

Please pay particular attention to all of the submission guidelines. The Program Chairs have agreed to apply them rigorously and reject non-conforming papers. All submissions must be made online at http://aom.org/annualmeeting/submission/.

If you have any questions that cannot be clarified through the website, please contact Andy Wick, 2019 SIM Division Program Chair (Wicksaaom@darden.virginia.edu) before December 15, 2018.

We look forward to seeing you in Boston!

    Andy Wicks
