    Dear Academy members,

On Saturday, August 11 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. in the Marriott Chicago Downtown, Room Chicago F, please join us for an important Professional Development Workshop on expanding the impact of Centers of Excellence in business schools.  This session is designed for anyone involved with a Center of Excellence or whose interests map to a center within your school.  We are bringing together leaders from centers of ethics, social responsibility, sustainability, responsible leadership, and positive organizations to discuss common challenges of running a center and integrating its mission and purpose to that of the university mission.  The workshop will focus on developing opportunities across centers for aligning themes and nurturing partnerships to realize mutual goals in research, stakeholder outreach, and curriculum development.

We are looking forward to a lively and productive session together.  Please attend and collaborate with us.

The premise of this proposed session is that "Centers of Excellence" associated with business ethics and other responsible management and leadership disciplines within business schools are faced with numerous challenges affecting their ability to: 1) provide utility to students and faculty members, 2) generate added value to universities and, 3) serve a positive role for external community and business stakeholders. More specifically, these challenges involve getting access to resources and funding, staying relevant to the business community and adapting to their rapidly changing needs, productively engaging with university faculty, and improving ethics education. Our Centers are in a unique position to be able to assess and improve business ethics and responsible management instructional techniques, and can serve as the impetus of efforts to integrate ethics and responsibility across business school curricula. In this PDW, Center directors, fellows, and affiliates will have the opportunity to share experiences and insights to address current and future challenges, develop an engaged resource network for achieving mutual goals, and explore how a humanistic management orientation can provide a generative foundation for advancing a 21st century agenda for our "Centers of Excellence."
