Best practices in fully online courses

    Dear Colleagues,

At Rutgers Business School, we presently have only one degree program that is fully online (Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting: http://www.business.rutgers.edu/govmaccy).  As such, the students never come to campus and never meet each other in person. As a "traditionalist", these kind of programs give me pause. In overseeing this program, and in thinking about our level of interest in creating other fully online degree programs, I'm curious to find out best practices from others. How do others go about developing student connection, affiliation, community, and alumni involvement within fully online programs?  Might you even view it as necessary to at least bring the students to campus at the start?  Just would love hear about the experiences of others.  Please send your responses to me at: mbarnett@business.rutgers.edu.

    Thanks,
    Mike
