Dear ONE, SIM, MSR, PNP and MED members (with apologies for cross-postings):
You may not be aware that this year the tradition of giving something back to the Academy of Management's conference host city through a service project during the annual meetings has been reinstituted. Your division has been a co-sponsor of Academy service projects in the past, so I thought you might be interested in participating.
We will be doing various projects at Growing Power's "urban farm" in Grant Park, about a 20 minute walk from the conference hotels. People can sign up for one of three times: Friday 1-4, Saturday 9-12 and Saturday 1-4. It will take five participants for a session to "make". Growing Power is a Milwaukee based NGO dedicated to enhancing the access of urban residents to healthy locally grown food, as well as providing social, economic and environmental benefits to urban communities through involvement in farming and gardening.
You can get more information and/or sign up at the Service Project page of the 2009 Annual Meeting site:

Finally, please mention or pass this along to colleagues in other divisions who have an interest in community service and service learning. The degree of participation in this project and the one next year in Montreal will help determine whether service projects once again become a regular part of future Academy meetings.
Sincerely,
Gordon Rands
