    Hi, all --

Sorry to clutter your inboxes, but I've received some emails letting me know
that the web/email addresses in my previous announcement did not show up in
    some browsers.

So, for those interested in applying, you may find information at:

    http://sim.aomonline.org/docconpage.htm

Or email Professor Heather Elms (American University) at:

    elms@american.edu

And, since this email, too, may go awry in some browsers, I'll simply say
that Heather's email is easy to find on the American University website, and
the application information is on the SIM website (at aomonline.org).

    Thanks,
    Michael

Social Issues in Management Division 2008 Doctoral Consortium
Academy of Management Annual Meeting, Anaheim, CA
    August 8-9, 2008

    Co-chairs:
    Michael Johnson-Cramer, Bucknell University, mjohncra@bucknell.edu
    Heather Elms, American University, elms@american.edu

All doctoral students working in the general area of social issues in
management (SIM) – including but not limited to business ethics, corporate
social responsibility, business and government – are invited to apply to
participate in the Academy of Management 2008 Social Issues in Management
Division doctoral consortium. In addition to students who focus on social
issues, students whose primary area is outside of SIM but who also emphasize
social issues (e.g., ethics or business and society relations) in their work
are welcome. Indeed, SIM has a history of encouraging cross-fertilization
    with scholars from other divisions.

The consortium serves as an ideal opportunity for doctoral students to begin
to converse about scholarship and teaching with a wider community of
scholars in social issues in management beyond their Universities and
doctoral programs. A variety of top SIM scholars will participate as
panelists and coaches, and participating students are typically drawn from a
range of countries and backgrounds. While offering abundant networking
opportunities, the consortium content focuses on developing research and
teaching skills and strategies, and on achieving a balance between career
    and other dimensions of life.

The consortium begins on Friday afternoon with opportunities to get
acquainted with fellow participants and SIM scholars. This session is
followed by a casual dinner “on the town.” Saturday will be full of
additional learning, with ample time for reflection and discussion. We’ll
spend time in sessions devoted to the crafts of teaching and research. We
will continue the tradition of pairing consortium participants with SIM
scholars to provide feedback on students’ research ideas. We will also
spend time reflecting and discussing early career issues such as managing
the dissertation process, developing a research stream, choosing a
    job/university, and work-life balance.

To apply, students need to obtain a faculty sponsor and submit an
application form. Applicants should ask that sponsoring faculty e-mail the
consortium chairs with a one paragraph recommendation. In addition, students
must submit an abstract describing their dissertation (no more than two
pages single-spaced). Application forms and more information are available
at the SIM website (http://sim.aomonline.org/docconpage.htm). All
submissions should be sent to Heather Elms at elms@american.edu. While we
will give priority to those students who are finishing their study and who
have not previously attended a SIM doctoral consortium, we realize that
students may benefit by attending a consortium earlier in their course of
study and by attending more than once. Therefore, we encourage applications
    from such students as well.

Space is limited, so it is essential to submit an application no later than
the deadline of June 1, 2008. We hope to see you in Anaheim!

    *apologies for cross postings*

    Dear SIM-ians

Do you know a fantastic doctoral student that would benefit from a welcoming academic community? Please encourage them to apply for this year's SIM Doctoral Consortium! Acceptances are on a rolling basis and we will be taking applications until June 30th. Please see the complete announcement below.

The Social Issues in Management Division is now accepting applications for the 2015 Academy of Management Doctoral Consortium to be held at the Academy of Management meeting in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The Consortium will bring together doctoral students and more than 30 experienced SIM faculty to discuss opportunities and challenges in the field.

The Consortium will begin at 5pm on Thursday, August 6th, with a kickoff Author's Workshop where Professor Linda Trevino of Pennsylvania State University will discuss her research and career in academia in an interview with scholar Michael Johnson (Bucknell University). Dinner will follow. On Friday the 7th, the Consortium will begin at 8:00am and finish at 6pm. The program will include panels and discussions on success in the classroom, success in completing the dissertation, success with co-authors, success in publishing, and a host of other topics. Students will also receive detailed and constructive feedback on their work from an accomplished scholar in the field.

To apply, please complete the application form, available on the AoM SIM Division website at http://sim.aomonline.org/awards/DC_App_2015.docx or contact Co-Chairs Tara Ceranic (tara@sandiego.edu) or Shawn Berman (sberman@unm.edu). The application should be accompanied by a one-page abstract of dissertation or research in progress as well as a one-paragraph recommendation by a nominating faculty member. Applications are due by June 30, 2015.

Please note:  Acceptance into the consortium is via application only. Once a student is admitted, he/she will receive a PDW registration number to formally register on the AoM website.

We look forward to hearing from you!
    Tara Ceranic & Shawn Berman
