All the World's a Stage: Theatre as a Method for Rethinking Scholarship and Teaching
This PDW part of the AoM's 2026 program explores how theatre, dramaturgy, improvisation, and performance can enrich management education and organizational scholarship, bringing together an outstanding panel of scholars who have incorporated these approaches into their teaching and research:
- Daniel Arenas (Esade)
- Alessia Contu (University of Massachusetts Boston)
- Ed Freeman (University of Virginia)
- Christopher Michaelson (University of St. Thomas)
- Adaora Ubaka (University of Massachusetts Amherst)
Together, we will discuss questions such as:
- How can theatre be meaningfully integrated into management education?
- What can dramaturgy reveal about leadership, responsibility, psychological safety, and organizational life?
- How can scholars conduct rigorous theatre-informed research and publish it successfully?
- What opportunities and challenges arise when bringing the arts into business schools?
Whether you are already using arts-based methods or are simply curious about alternative approaches to teaching and research, we hope you will join the conversation.
