PANEL SYMPOSIUM - ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE 2026, PHILADELPHIA (ON-DEMAND)

A panel symposium will be held as part of this year's Academy of Management Conference that focuses on what was learned when working on the book together as a large multidiscipline group.

    Title:
Strategy, Change and Project Leadership: New Discourses and Multidisciplinary Research Foundations

    Abstract:
Ten years ago, a group of scholars from several academic disciplines came together in an Academy of Management conference caucus to explore why strategy, change and project scholars study the problem of how strategies get successfully implemented very differently and if there were some common threads that could bind them. Since then, after asking this simple question and collaborating on many scholarly projects, including writing two books together, the group has moved closer to being able to answer this question. Indeed, we believe we have identified new ways of thinking about management problems, as well as new directions for research, pedagogy and practice, that complement already proven methods in the disciplines of strategic management, change management and project management. With this in mind, the panelists will talk about what they learned that was especially thought-provoking from contributing to our latest book. They will do so from the perspective of their own body of discipline-specific research and explain why they believe management scholars are now in a stronger position to study, teach and advise managers about the strategy process in ways never done before. They look forward to answering questions from an engaged multidisciplinary audience.

It should be possible for us to work with the various chapter book authors to get answers to your questions about their chapter too if this could be helpful.

Please send the questions you have about the book, its structure, individual chapters, research being undertaken at the present time and courses we are developing based on the book via email with the words "AOM Panel Symposium Question" in the subject line to:
     Dr Angelina Zubac

The panel video and other materials will be shared through the AOM Conference secure online platform. Materials will be available just prior to, during and after the annual meeting.

    BOOK INTRODUCTION BY THE EDITORS:
Strategy, Change and Transformational Project Leadership
Abstract: This handbook brings together a large body of work and learnings that have accumulated over the last decades on the topic of strategy, change and transformational project leadership. Its aim is to identify new ways of thinking about management problems, and new directions for research and pedagogy, that complement already proven methods in the disciplines of strategic management, change management, and project management. Thus, it answers the calls from business leaders for new theories and decision-making tools to be developed that can be applied in a variety of contexts when making strategic decisions about an organisation's future, given how interconnected and reliant on digital technologies, complex and uncertain the world has become since the middle of the last century. It also answers the calls to identify new ways to conduct multi-discipline research as a means to address these new challenges. Importantly, it develops many frameworks that organisational leaders can use to make more effective strategic, change management, and project management decisions. These frameworks can also be used by researchers to develop more relevant and powerful new theories, putting them in a strong position to educate the next generation of leaders studying management to the highest of standards.
