    Dear All,

Please join us online on Tuesday, 23 April, at 4pm BST, for the first R:ETRO seminar of this term, hosted by the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation.

Hasko von Kriegstein (Ted Rogers School of Management) will be giving a paper entitled "The Logic and Perils of Business Ethics Denial."

    Abstract:

Academics and practitioners whose work revolves around ethics in business are all too familiar with the saw that "business ethics" is a contradiction in terms. It's often encountered as a joke, though one typically taken to contain a grain of truth, and sometimes as a serious contention. This lecture will begin by unpacking and critiquing some arguments for why one might think that there is a deep conceptual tension between ethics and business that would vindicate this type of Business Ethics Denial. The lecture will then address the idea that business ethics denial itself is partly responsible for the prevalence of unethical and illegal conduct in the business context.
