We are very pleased to announce the 2nd meeting of The International Academy of Research in Indigenous Management and Organizational Studies. Last year’s inaugural meeting was an unqualified success with researchers attending from around the globe! We have received enthusiastic support and interest from various journals and institutions, a testament to the relevance and importance of IARIMOS!
This year’s event aims to build on the momentum emerging from the enriching experiences shared by last year’s participants. The Academy will assemble again a group of leading Indigenous and non-Indigenous senior management scholars and bring them together with ‘emerging scholars’ (doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and junior faculty members) to explore topics related to research in Indigenous Management and Organization Studies.
The event will take place from August 15th to 17th, 2024, at the Telfer School of Management in the University of Ottawa. It will be hosted by the Canada Research Chair in Social and Inclusive Entrepreneurship at the Telfer School, Dr. Ana Maria Peredo, in collaboration with several established international scholars, knowledge keepers and thought-provoking keynote speakers.
In addition to keynote presentations, the two-and-a-half-day consortium will feature panel discussions bringing together prominent Indigenous researchers and emergent scholars as well as workshops on research in progress by emergent scholars. We have confirmed the participation of such scholars from the Americas, New Zealand Australia and Oceania, as well as Indigenous people elsewhere in the world (Africa, Europe, Asia), as well as Indigenous leaders and elders whose presence will ensure that research conversations remain connected to Indigenous realities.
We invite submissions for participation in the Academy from doctoral students, postdoctoral scholars and junior faculty members, Indigenous or non-Indigenous, who are working on topics in Indigenous enterprise, management, organization and entrepreneurship, especially as those intersect with ideas of sustainability, reconciliation and resurgence. Our call is meant to embrace a wide range of methodologies, topics, interests, and challenges. Submissions may draw on work-in-progress as part of a thesis, a project for publication, or maybe a new project related to any of the Academy’s broad subject areas, which include but are not limited to:
- Addressing Indigenous issues in management and organizations from a global or international perspective
- How Indigenous political, economic and social systems contribute to our understanding of relevant factors that inhibit or enhance Indigenous prosperity
- Indigenous peoples in organizations, entrepreneurship and leadership
- Indigenous community-based enterprises
- Indigenous ways of knowing and doing
- Research methods or the application of Indigenous methodologies, ontologies and epistemologies, such as two-eyed seeing, concepts related to braiding and two-row wampum, and Indigenous-led research, etc.
- The Indigenization of organizations from public to private and impact on individuals, teams, communities, organizations and regions
- The negative side of Indigenous reconciliation, research, management and organizing
- Indigenous entrepreneurship across all of its forms and processes
- Indigenous social justice issues, ethics and organizing against the backdrop of neoliberalism
- Community, collective, cooperative and prosocial organizing from an Indigenous perspective
- The nature of, and the pros and cons of, Indigenous identity within academia
- Indigenous peoples, grand challenges and sustainable development goals
Submissions should be in the form of (i) 3,500-word summary (excluding references and supporting materials) and (ii) CV. Submission packages should be sent to The International Indigenous Academy Conference mailbox: iiac@telfer.uottawa.ca by April 30th, 2024. Authors of accepted submissions are welcome to expand their proposal for workshop discussion and feedback.
There are no fees and meals during the gathering will be provided. There are grants available for accepted emergent scholars to contribute to covering a portion of your travel.
